There are three silk factories in Margelan: "Yodgorlik", "Faizulodin" and "Atlas", as well as a large number of artisans who carefully preserve and revive the secrets of making Margilan fabrics. Among the large producers of silk yarn, the "Yodgorlik" factory is especially popular among tourists. This historic factory was founded in 1972 and played an important role in the revival of sericulture in Uzbekistan. Indeed, for many decades, the manual method of producing antique fabrics on ancient wooden spinning machines has been carefully preserved here.
During a tour of the factory, guests can familiarize themselves with all stages of silk production: from unwinding a cocoon thread and obtaining yarn to a special old technology for dyeing ready-made silkworm cocoon threads – "abirbandi", also known as "ikat". On the territory of the factory, you can also buy souvenirs: scarves, cuts of silk, semi-silk and cotton fabrics.
